Description

Starting from the outside, the case is light and slim with a nice design distinguished by a subtle dip of the top surface extending down the sides in a subtle curve. There is a single diffused dot of light that comes on when you remove/replace the buds that let you know of the battery life via changes in color. We’ve reviewed two other products from EarFun in the past and they turned out to be really great products. The company has sent us their new earbuds to review, this time a true wireless pair. Switch to Words Of A Fool by Barry Gibb and Jason Isbell on Tidal Masters and there’s a pleasing level of separation and clarity between the wurlitzer, piano, textured guitars and Gibb’s soulful vocal. Taylor Swift’s Willow is similarly expansive through the three-dimensional string section and, although there’s that marginal touch of harshness through the midrange, Swift’s central, often ethereal vocal stylings are well-handled. The good level of noise cancelling is thanks in part to the six-mic array (three per bud), which also ensures clear voice calls in our tests. Battery life is good too, with a claimed total of 25 hours with ANC on (seven from the buds plus 18 hours from the case) or 32 hours with it off. Considering you'll get excellent audio here, decent battery life and an app we enjoyed using, the Cambridge Audio Melomania 1 Plus are fantastic all-rounders and great value.

EarFun Air true wireless earbuds review - The Gadgeteer EarFun Air true wireless earbuds review - The Gadgeteer

You want top quality sound and have a stretchier budget: If sound quality is top of your list and you can spend a little more, do that. The EarFun Air is fully compatible with Apple devices. Is the EarFun Air compatible with Android devices? Switching to a more sensitive melody, Elton John’s Skyline Pigeon is a similar success story. There’s the vocal on our left, the harpsichord on our right, and both merge beautifully halfway through the song, but never at the expense of the emotive lyrics. The LyperTek PurePlay Z3 2.0 are the successors to the original Lypertek PurePlay Z3, which we loved. They boast great features for the price, including wireless charging, a powerful new LDX Audio mode, improved app functionality and a hear through ambient mode. But the best feature here is battery life, which is a huge 80 hours with the charging case and 10 hours from the buds on their own.As mentioned previously, the case has an LED light indicating battery remaining. When it is green there is more than 30% battery life left, orange is less than 30%, red is less than 10%, and flashing red is less than 1%.

You really want app support: They do amazing things without a companion app (on-ear volume control, EQ profiles, access to voice assistants – it's all here) but if you'd like one, you won't find it here. The Free 2 earbuds are their cheapest pair of true wireless, sitting alongside the original, and still available, Free buds. With a feature set that looks to capture mobile gamers and fitness fanatics, these are the type of all-purpose earbuds that often crop up – and judging by their performance, do a solid enough job. Design This feature allows you to still hear the sound from outside while listening to music. The transparent mode have useful for being aware of the dangers that will arise while listening to music, for example, as you walk on the sidewalk or across the street, you will hear the horn of cars. Or, you can hear the operator while you are wearing earbuds. Battery LifeThey're not the nicest-looking buds, but they're incredibly lightweight and comfortable to wear for long periods, and have physical buttons, which we know some people prefer to touch-sensitive surfaces. They come with small, medium or large silicone ear tips, or Flexifit foam tip that expands slightly in your ear for a tighter seal and better passive noise cancellation. ANC is top of your list: There's no active noise cancellation here, sadly, although the hear-through feature works beautifully to stay aware. The JLab Go Air Pop are an incredibly accomplished pair of buds considering how cheap they are. Connectivity was instant and reliable throughout our testing, we also liked the simple on-ear volume controls. There's a mic in each earbud for call-handling, and you'll get basic EQ profiles too – triple tap either earpiece and you’ll hear the soothing voice say “balanced’, “bass boost” or “JLab signature”. This form factor was adopted by the EarFun Air but you will also see it on popular brand/models like the Skullcandy Indy True Wireless. Nonetheless, this long piece rarely does become an issue regarding comfort and the light weight of the EarFun add up to an overall comfortable and pleasing experience. As if that wasn't enough, these are some of the most secure and comfortable buds we've tested (especially for smaller ears) with a solid build quality – they're 37% lighter and 38% smaller than the top-tier WF-1000XM4 buds from Sony, too.

Earfun Air review | What Hi-Fi?

The EarFun Air Pro 3 buds may not look special but they're a great pair of all-rounders. They bring you a good nine hours of battery life with an additional 36 from the case. There's also multipoint pairing on offer and some next-gen features that we couldn’t test yet for our review, but may soon make these buds even more special, including support for the highly-anticipatedBluetooth LE Audiotech. Hear-through and ambient modes are important to you: Though the PurePlay Z3 2.0 claims to have listening modes that give you a better feel for your surroundings, they didn’t prove very useful in our testing. You want class-leading sound: We enjoyed listening to music with the EarFun Air Pro 3, but it’s not at the top of the pile. Critical listeners won’t like them and will find better definition from rivals. Also, a waterproof rating of IPX7 means you can submerge them in water up to a depth of 1m for up to 30 minutes. Always useful. The sound leaking out of these TWS is less hearable than many average headphones, this does not make them stealthily silent but will never be an issue on every normal daily situations. The response to EQ of this EarFun TWS was efficient on bass empowering and midrange reorganization with vast results but the effects over their highs and treble, also introduced some cons. Elsewhere, the EarFun Air offers a lot of everything else you could want. There's wireless charging which continues to be the most effort-free way of recharging earbuds.
