The technology at work on the 2016 Honda CRF250X is aging, yet it’s still relevant. It has a 12.5:1 compression ratio, to give it that snap we need, a forget piston with short and narrow skirts, titanium intake valves, double-carburized connecting rod, Nikasil cylinder liner, and a twin-sump lubrication design that keeps the engine oil and clutch/transmission oil in separate chambers. All of these features combine to offer increased performance, as well as added reliability.

OK so let’s look at what we are dealing with. The Honda CRF250X runs a liquid cooled, 249cc, 78mm x 54mm bore and stroke, single four-stroke power plant. Despite virtually every other manufacturer going for a twin-cam layout, the entire CR range is served by the Unicam four valve design. It’s taken until the 2018 factory MX bikes for Honda to let go of this design, and to be fair, you can see why. The SOHC option keeps down the weight, shortens the upper part of the engine, hence keeping the centre of gravity low. The extremely narrow valve angles keep the combustion wonderfully efficient compared to the necessarily wide set valves on the equivalent DOHC layout. It’s a clear question of ‘if it’s not broke’ tech, but in terms of raw power, the quoted output is a modest 29.3 bhp, so not MXGP levels … Iznos iz potvrde o narudžbini plaćate on-line preko Vašeg E ili M-bankinga. The little Honda’s power delivery and quiet low-down torque requires an entirely different riding style, and if you are not careful, lulls you into a much more relaxed approach to off-roading. Don’t get us wrong, you can get a hustle going on this bike, it just requires a bit more thought and planning to keep it on the boil if you are trying to make swift progress. The 2016 Honda CRF250X motor remains saddled with a carburetor, and that’s our biggest complaint. Although we did test in at various altitudes, and did not have to reject the excellent accelerator-pump equipped 37mm Keihin FCR flat-slide carb with a throttle position sensor (it works with the CDI’s electronic advance), we still prefer the automatically adjustment to changing conditions that comes with electronic fuel injection.

With only a five-speed transmission and only about 28 horses on tap, this isn’t a great desert mount. On dirt roads, though, the CRF250X is a fun ride, though make sure you get your weight over the front end on turns. If you don’t, it will wash out without a whole lot of warning. Stability is not the CRF250X’s strong suit. To be eligible for a return, The item must be ineffective, damaged or not to customer satisfaction. The clutch, although fine from the off, is maybe a tad prove to fade over time. And with that old school cable, will need a bit of adjustment on a long run, so our advice is to stay on the pipe and off the clutch! The gearbox makes up for the limitations of the clutch with super-smooth changes and a user-friendly selection of gears to cope with all eventualities. Having a five-speed box means the gears are wider and have a bigger range, so the tap dancing of a six-speeder is simply not there. While this is a given on EFI machines, we’re impressed at how resistant to flaming out the 249cc liquid-cooled, four-valve, SOHC (Honda’s unique Unicam) motor is, even when snapping on the throttle when clearing a log at low speed. When you see whoops or are contemplating big air, be cautious at first. This is a casual enduro bike, not a desert racer or motocrosser. Even jumping through whoops was a bit of a challenge, as the suspension compresses a bit too much on each landing. For the moderate air we hit off-road, it’s fine. If you ride GNCCs that include an MX section, well, this isn’t likely to be your mount unless you’re the most casual competitor.
