About this deal

I could go on, really I could because so much happens in this book and I plan on reading it again because I loved it so much and want to make sure I didn’t miss something. I really was digging how she came off one way but was really so complex and had so much more to her then what she projected. But she acts like she knows all about Zoey, threatens her, puts her in danger, and even gets physical with her. Zoey has nothing, she has lived on the streets since she turned eighteen and no longer part of the foster care.

Rating the first three books in this series on the over the top crazy scale; Puck Me Secretly level 5 over the top/crazy, Home Game level 1 over the top/crazy, The Penalty Box (this book) level 3 over the top/crazy.It fits into the classic mold, but also has the unique voice of Odette Stone, which takes Home Game to the next level. There's an attempt on the stalkers part to blackmail Zoey and I was afraid this would overwhelm the plot. It's like the author forgot that we already heard them say "oh wow, I see this person is attractive". Sometimes she acted tough, but other times she had trouble standing up for herself especially with Bianca. I loved how they became friends and he created a safe place for her before they started seeing each other as more.

That said these characters didn’t grab me quite like before, but I think that had more to do with their situation than anything else. And just when things are looking pretty dark for Zoey, Ryan takes over as her Knight in Shining Skates and saves the day. She is a cast member of the web series Critical Role, playing Vex'ahlia ("Vex"), Jester Lavorre, and Imogen Temult. But once Ryan's mom shows up, it gave that perspective to the story and allowed Ryan to be able to take a step back and evaluate the situation, the relationship and what would be best for zoey, the person with the keast powerr at the time. They formed a genuine friendship, although there was attraction always underlying the friendship, on both sides. There was a lot of petty drama being added in and I honestly didn’t care for anything that was going on.

Even though it ultimately became a misunderstanding that led to a few months of separation between the two, I love that Zoey was given the space to be independent and empowered. Ryan and Zoey were such wonderful friends and their relationship was based on so much trust and understanding. I was screaming at them “just do it already” and alas they finally did and well, it was worth the wait.Advertising on Simply Love Book Reviews has no influence on which books are accepted for review and/or the outcome of any reviews posted. Homeless, broke, and unwilling to accept handouts, twenty year old Zoey knows better than to trust Ryan, the strange man offering her help, but when that one chance encounter with him leads to his insistence on supporting her in her time of need, she knows she’s in no position to refuse. A lesser heroine might’ve seen Ryan as a gullible meal ticket, but Zoey never would’ve used him that way. Worried about his career after being suspended and the threat of being traded, Mica agrees to a fake marriage to satisfy the team owner despite his reservations.
