About this deal

No surprise to see the SSD's still running a *little* hotter, 'cos it's not actually connected to the chassis, but lookit those two hard drives: colder than in the Helios64. Now I'm not sure I should even go ahead with my plan to replace the Helios64 with the Eon - what's going to happen when summer hits and the office reaches 30°C? Seems high - I forgot to take a reading before I installed the drives, so I need to remove 'em and check again.

I know in the whole NAS networking industry 40TB isn’t much, but as far as Raspberry Pi storage is concerned that’s more than enough to keep your data safe. Effectively the same drives, though the Helios64 ones are newer and what was a WD Red is now a WD Red Plus, in the same room, at the same 20-degree ambient temperature: 9-11 degrees cooler across the board. The case exposes the entire IO – including USB ports, and a micro SD card slot, and transforms the micro HDMI ports present on the Raspberry Pi 4 boards into regular HDMI ports. Argon Eon will draw more than a typical Raspberry Pi board, but considerably less than any NAS made from old PC parts. All the other files, with the exception of the rtc configuration file have been moved into /etc/argoneon.

The design of the Argon EON makes use of space-grade aluminium allowing ultra-modern angular forms without compromising the rigidity and structural stability of the enclosure. Yes, I would be interested to see what it would take/cost to “upgrade” a preexisting Eon to be fully compatible with the Pi5 (new backplate, adapter board(s), etc. This has worked well, but I would like to clean up my network a bit (less devices, more organized, less maintenance, less complexity). i will try around with it a bit, maybe i will still get a little help with one or the other question regarding omv/docker. The fan will be triggered by one of two separate settings, the CPU temperature, or the HDD temperature. A real-time clock allows for accurate time to be kept in the event of a power outage and automating tasks such as restarting or getting data through APIs. ONLYOFFICE/onlyoffice-nextcloud: The app which enables the users to edit office documents from Nextcloud using ONLYOFFICE Document Server, allows multiple users to collaborate in real time and to save back those changes to Nextcloud (github. I decided to set a custom fan profile which wouldn’t spin over 50% until the temperature is hitting 70℃ in an attempt to keep the Argon Eon case as quiet as possible in normal operation. You can use the other USB3 port to plug another external (preferably with independent power-supply) HDD Box and use it to backup the internal ones. And the whole thing's pointless anyway, 'cos I've got it running at full tilt now and the hottest hard drive has gone from 37°C idle to 36°C idle.

In theory, this allows for bandwidth up to 5 Gbps which is more than our Ethernet can handle, and definitely faster than whatever drives you’ll have inside. Did some experimentation, 'cos I'll do literally anything instead of actual work: the OLED works fine at fan speeds of 14-100. With the original script I was able to prevent this by commenting out the HDD checking as is described elsewhere on the forum. I've got a 120mm fan 'ere with a USB connector and a manual three-speed-and-off control switch: set to its lowest speed, which is pretty much silent despite being within arm's reach on my desk, and pointed at the heatsink-like rear of the case.Whilst Argon have rated the enclosure at 10TB per slot, 18TB drives have been used and tested by the Argon team - however we assume the more reserved 10TB per slot limit is to allow headroom to account for the vast range of different disks with different power consumption ratings in existence. This with the (optional) installation of Portainter will allow you to drop the Plex container and set it up. The aluminium body naturally conducts and dissipates heat which is backed up by a built-in controllable 60mm fan to cool both the Raspberry Pi and hard disks even at heavy loads. I found a very handy tool: DiskInternals Linux reader to save my stuff from EXT4/EXT3 formatted drives on Windows without actually powering the boards on. The only restrictions on the unit are the computing power of a raspberry pi so if the pi can do it so can the EON but keep in mind the pi is a basic single board computer, it’s only capable of so much.
