About this deal

This subreddit is for News, Reviews, or high quality discussions related to Monitors and Display Technologies. It's one of the best 21:9 ultrawide gaming monitors that we've reviewed so far and it's cheaper than other similar monitors. The main differences are that the 34GN850-B has slightly better response time at max refresh rate, and it gets a bit brighter in HDR, although not by much. The Samsung has a higher refresh rate, but its response time isn't as good as the LG's because it has more overshoot causing inverse ghosting, as well as slow dark transitions that can result in dark smearing behind fast-moving objects. The LG 34GN850 is a curved monitor with a large display diagonal of 34 inches, offering a widescreen viewing experience.

Sadly, it doesn't perform all that well in dark environments due to its low contrast ratio, and it doesn't have a local dimming feature either. The stand is a bit different compared to other LG UltraGear monitors, so only the tips of the V-shaped stand make contact with the table.

connector to unlock the 144Hz refresh rate and 10-bit color depth, as using one of the two HDMI inputs will limit your maximum refresh rate to 85Hz with 10-bit colors.

Its IPS panel ensures accurate colors and wide viewing angles, while the curved screen shape enhances immersion. It’s a fair trade-off if you want to use this monitor for web content creation, plus it lets you avoid the cost of the colorimeter if you don’t already own it.

There is a joystick under the bottom bezel which is easy to reach and quite responsive, but you can also use the brand’s OnScreen Control in Windows. LG offers It on many of their models, so it’s disappointing that they excluded it for an upgrade to one of their best models. Overall, the LG 34GK950F-B and the LG 34GN850-B perform very similarly, with the 34GN850-B being marginally better.

millioin colors, which are typical for 8-bit display panels, and not the standard 262200 colors, instead. Nvidia’s new RTX 3080 can easily power this display, and in most games, an older high-end GPU like the GTX 1080 Ti or Radeon VII will be enough. The bad is that the contrast ratio is lower than other IPS panels, such as the older Acer Predator X34 which is about 30 percent better for black levels and therefore contrast. The red accents don't light up and there's a small cutout on the stand that serves as cable management.Pixel responsiveness is the best aspect of the LG 34GN850 thanks to its refresh rate and a particularly effective overdrive feature.
