About this deal

The beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 80 is a dynamic, closed-back headset with an 80-ohm impedance rating for tracking and monitoring applications, and it has been a firm fixture of studios across the world since it was released. The DT770 features circular, fully sealed acoustic chambers with foam-filled velour ear cushions that fit over, rather than resting upon, the ears.

The Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO are decent headphones for wired gaming due to their detailed sound profile and their great bass and mid-range response. Generally, higher-impedance headphones require more output from the connected device to produce audio at listenable volumes.

The mids are linear throughout, they feel very natural-sounding, they have a natural timbre to them.

Built in Germany to last the testing nature of life in the studio, using steel, durable plastics, and leather. This deviation in the treble range means that vocals and spoken words can sound unnatural and tinny.

However, the bass range was a little inconsistent between sittings and depended somewhat on the shape of the listener's head. Despite having an overarching V-shaped tuning, the midrange on the DT770 Pro does not feel subdued and there's really not much for me to say here. Typical for a dynamic headphone from the nineties, the driver will distort once it goes into high excursion due to low frequency content or high SPL. You don't get the same physical impression of bass because only your ears are involved, whereas with speakers it's your whole body, and the stereo image always seems to exist inside your head rather than in front of it, but for track laying late at night or for scrutinising a mix for imperfections, the DT770s are hard to fault. The Audio-Technica ATH-M50x come with a detachable cable and are a good choice for users who find the treble response in Beyerdynamic headphones to be fatiguing.

This is a common practice; for instance, Denon (just the first example I thought of) would sell one receiver to specialty audio/video dealers, and an essentially identical receiver with a different model number to mass-market retailers.

The only thing I really noticed was that after EQ'ing, there's a bit of a dip at around 4KHz making the presence region a tiny bit lacking in presence, but this was very subtle. A frequency response of 5 - 35000 Hz is complimented with a nominal impedance of 34 ohms and maximum SPL of 119dB (nominal 99dB).

I also own Amiron Homes, which certainly sound a little better but which don’t quite fit my head as perfectly as the 770s, and I have a pair of 880 250ohms which I think have a significantly different sound signature from the 770s (very precise but understated bass and a gauzy, delicate treble). Semi-open back studio headphones that offer a 'reference-class' analytical sound, with velour, circumaural ear-pads. I personally prefer the tamed highs on DT770, since they allow me to listen for longer, without as much ear fatigue.

Each phone is supported in an anodised aluminium yoke; these are in turn supported by a well-padded, adjustable headband. The groundbreaking drivers that Beyerdynamic are famous for are hand-built in Germany, thus providing you with even more assurance of quality. The soft, over-ear pads get you close to the audio drivers without sacrificing any of the relaxing fit. They come with more high-end cables and accessories and don't sound as sharp on vocals and instrumentals as the Beyerdynamic.
