About this deal

Both for treatment (as is already being done in some cases), and also for recreational use and identifying possible genetic risks.

Er erläutert die Wissenschaft hinter den Wirkungen verschiedener Drogen auf das Gehirn und den Körper und beleuchtet auch die sozialen und rechtlichen Aspekte. Drugs without the hot air is a highly readable and informative survey of the current state of play on recreational drug use and abuse by one of our leading clinical psychopharmacologists. After all, even if you’ve not given it much thought before, it stands to reason that a prison sentence and criminal record will do more harm to an individual’s life and prospects than the physical effects of, say, cannabis. A typical chapter uses its focus to discuss some related concept – for example, the chapter on cocaine looks at the kinetics of drug taking, or how the method of delivering a substance can vastly affect its harmful effects and addictiveness. But, if you've ever wondered why so many senior police officers and politicians have a complete change of heart once they are out of office, then you might find an explanation in these pages. One of the ‘scares’ in the UK (on which the book focusses, but lessons apply widely) was that of Ecstasy/mollie/MDMA. In the book (and this paper – published in a leading psychology journal) he argues for the greater danger from Equasy. This book covers various aspects of drug use: how drugs work, how harmful they are, what addiction is, what treatments are available and so on. An actual expert scientific investigation of alcohol/drugs and drug policy without a bunch of misleading morality-based bullshit. Then they got onto the subject of cannabis and spouted what I assumed were nonsensical conspiracy theories.

But there are still major issues (see Chapter 12) and insufficient summaries (see Chapter 13) to contend with, leading me to think I probably wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. Drugs with the Hot Air is the perfect book for anyone who wants to understand drugs, their risks and benefits.Plus, while David Nutt clearly has his own opinions present in this book, I think he wrote a fairly good representation of the facts as well (this based on my own general knowledge and what I have learned at uni).
