Turban squash has an interesting shape resembling a hat, with a flat, round circumference and what looks like a second fruit popping out of the top called a blossom end button.
An inbred line of pumpkin, “009-1” (obtained by more than 10 generations of selfing and stored in our laboratory), was used in this experiment. The seeds were germinated in a glass Petri dish, which was lined with a moist filter paper. After the seeds germinated, they were transferred to a mixed substrate, consisting of 66.7% (v/v) peat moss, 22.2% (v/v) vermiculite, and 11.1% (v/v) perlite, and grown under natural light with a daily average temperature of 21.5 ± 3.3°C (Xinxiang city, China, lat. 35° 16′ 58″N, long. 113° 55′ 44″E). The shoot apices of seedlings were sprayed with 600mg/l of STS solution containing 0.1% Tween-20 (STS treatment) and 0.1% Tween-20 (control) twice every 2days, when the third true leaves of the seedlings unfolded. The concentration of STS was chosen referring to previous studies ( Stankovic and Prodanovic, 2002). Fairytale F1 is similar to the Cinderella pumpkin variety, but it has a unique wood-like color on cheese-wheel shaped fruits, averaging about 15 lbs. These colored fruits go well in displays with pumpkins of the dark orange category, and most are also excellent for eating.

Orange Princess is a fast-growing variety with slightly flattened fruits and deep-orange flesh and fruit averaging 5 lbs. each. Cinderella pumpkin variety is also called Rouge vif d’Etampes, meaning ‘bright red.’ The 10 to 15 lb. fruits have the flattened shape of the ‘cheese-wheel’ type, reminiscent of Cinderella’s carriage. Results
Close relatives of the pumpkin are pumpkin-like squash with the same uses as regular pumpkins. Turban squash is an excellent example of this group of cucurbits. Blue Lakota, a North American heirloom with shallow ribs and a pear-shape that’s great for pies and steaming. Each pumpkin group contains cultivars (also called varieties) with fruits suitable for pies and other types of cooking, and decorative uses, such as carving, painting, or displaying ‘as is’ for its natural beauty. Some varieties are right for more than one purpose. Pepo Pumpkin Breeds STS and AgNO 3 are effective ethylene perception inhibitors. Previous studies have indicated that STS can be used to induce staminate flowers in monoecious and dioecious plants ( Mishra et al., 2015; Lubell and Brand, 2018; Parimala et al., 2019), and increase flower production and longevity in flowering ornamental plants ( Serek et al., 2015). Our results indicate that STS treatment delays the occurrence of the first female flower and increases the number of male flowers significantly. These results confirm the effects of STS on floral sex differentiation in monoecious plants, corroborating the results of previous studies ( Mishra et al., 2015; Lubell and Brand, 2018).
