The overall fitting and comfort are exceptional. Asics Venture 9 has a generously padded collar, tongue, and sidewall that hugs the foot snugly. There is an excellent midfoot hold. The heel counter is also solid enough to hold the heels down. The Gel Venture also fits true-to-size for anyone with regular foot size. I wear a size 10. After my 50 miles of running, I saw normal signs of wear on the the upper, maybe have some concerns with the overlays lasting into 200+ mile range. However, newer shoes in the Asics lineup, like the NovaBlast, utilize more lightweight, bouncy midsole designs that mirror what other top brands are doing in their premium speedwork and racing shoes. The roof of the toe box does not sit blatantly on the toes, creating more room for the toes to splay naturally. Asics also cut down overlays to make it slightly more breathable than the previous version. Still, the breathability of Gel Venture 9 is not suitable for hot day training. Over the decades, Asics has developed several notable shoe technologies and many superb training shoes for runners, including some of the best running shoes of 2023.

One of the most reliable brands in road and trail running, Asics provides a wide range of shoe series, each with their dedicated uses. The Gel-Venture family is an entry-level trail shoe, with the new Gel Venture 9 hitting an interesting balance between road and trail running. I would suggest this running shoe for runners that like to go on nice easy tempo runs out on the trails. Other users also love this shoe as a casual walking shoe due to its durable outsole and super-cushioned upper. Trail runners should be most focused on the sole of the shoe, this is what you’re (generally) paying extra for. While the Asics Gel Venture 8 is built tough, it’s not necessarily built for extremes. Sure, the outsole is incredibly durable, but the minimal support in the midsole means that it’s not necessarily ideal for running long distances. I personally think this is a grab at trying to make the outsole look like it was made by Vibram (a high quality outsole manufacturer that brands their products with a yellow patch of rubber exactly where Asics placed this band).

If you want your ASICS trail runners to be everyday shoes, buy two pairs so one is always trail-ready. Despite being a budget-friendly trail running shoe, the Asics Gel Venture 9 can withstand over 800 miles. I have done 200 miles, and the outsole has minimal sights of wear. I am sure about getting new pairs before they wear out.
