Jesus (Daniel Curtis) – A friend of Gavin and Smithy's. He only appears in the stag episode; most likely owing to the fact that no one in the group really seems to like him. Deano ( Mathew Baynton) is a friend of Gavin and Smithy's. He works with Smithy and is known for being gormless and somewhat naïve. He learnt Welsh prior to coming over to Wales with the "Essex Lads". He wasn't at Gavin's stag, but got a T-shirt made afterwards when they went to the foam party. Among his idiosyncrasies is a fondness for drinking a mixture of equal parts tea and coffee, which he calls a "toffee" or a "cea" (pronounced "key"). Lucy – Smithy's much younger girlfriend, who is still in secondary school. She is never seen on-screen, and dumps Smithy in Series 2 when he discovers that she has been seeing somebody else. In a running joke meant to illustrate the age gap between her and Smithy, she is often mentioned to be doing activities that would normally be associated with younger people (such as Brownies or trampolining).

N' Simon (Daniel Jeffrey) – A friend of Gavin and Smithy's. He has been friends with them since primary school. He is never seen without his best friend Gary; but he does not appear in Series 3, as it appears he has had an argument with Gary. Nessa: “I just can’t believe this, Stace. Of all the people I’ve slept with it’s him gets me pregnant. Not Nigel Havers, not John Prescott, not any of Goldie Lookin Chain. No, some knobhead from Essex.” Stacey's mum Gwen is a cheerful character who loves her daughter and is known for making omelets! Sheridan SmithSeries 2 sees big changes for Smithy, as he finds out he is the father of Nessa's baby. Being the decent fella he is, he offered to support Nessa, even though she begins dating Dave (whom she previously dated). Doris "Dor" O'Neill ( Margaret John) – Gwen's elderly next door neighbour. She looks like a stereotypical "little old lady", in sharp contrast to her behaviour and blunt, profanity-littered conversational style. Doris regularly dates younger men, even offering herself up to Gavin for "discreet" extramarital relations, and is described by Bryn as "a player". She has a daughter named Moira, whom she loathes and would like to "smother" if she saw her again. Gwen even goes so far as to say "she was a nasty piece of work". It is Doris who mentions the unfortunate coincidence of Gavin and Stacey sharing the West and Shipman surnames with serial murderers Fred and Rose West and Harold Shipman. Catherina "Cath" Smith ( Pam Ferris) – Smithy and Rudi's mother who first appears in the first episode of Series 3. She is rumoured to have had a lesbian relationship with the headteacher of Gavin and Smithy's primary school. She claims to suffer from narcolepsy, though Pam attributes this to her excessive drinking. She attends single mother support groups and has been known to perform lewd acts on webcam, having once accidentally exposed herself to Nessa thinking she was a man named John. Japanese Margaret – A friend of Pam and Dawn's whose name came up during the protest over the telephone mast. In the same world as Doris, Dawn and Pete’s presence is never done too much. Their amazingness works because of how incredible Adrian Scarborough and the incomparable Julia Davis are as actors – if you’ve never seen the behind the scenes special and witnessed their chemistry as mates off camera I suggest you do so URGENTLY. When ranking Gavin and Stacey characters it’s easy to see why these two are such fan faves. Absolutely golden. Poison dwarf! GOD TIER !!!! Nessa

The embodiment of evil. Manipulative, childish, bratty and wholly unlikeable. How this disgrace of a human got six men to propose to her is actually beyond me. Shit tier SoniaDoris: “She lives for the day she can change her name from West, what with all the connotations and what have you, and what does she become? A Shipman.” So yes, Gavin & Stacey has a strong premise, quotable lines, engaging characters and top performances throughout. But, truth be told, I don’t think these are the only reasons that the show was so popular. And on the Welsh side of the fence, Rob Brydon’s Bryn more than holds his own in the comedic throng. Whether he’s skirting around the fishing-trip-that-shall-not-be-discussed, developing his interesting relationship with technology (“that’s the beauty; after I’ve put all of mine on, I’ve still got room for 49,853 songs”), singing with Nessa, stressing out over the surprise party, working out with Smithy or interacting over-enthusiastically with all the lads, Bryn garners big laughs on regular occasions. Bryn: “I cannot speak the Welsh language. It’s a constant source of embarrassment to me, but Welsh is not my mother tongue.” Smithy only had two hours to complete nearly all his Christmas Shopping, and went to Marks and Spencer's where Stacey is working, just so he can use her Staff discount.

Jean – A character who Bryn invites to Gwen's birthday party, due to guests he'd already invited saying they can't attend. Jean is hated by Gwen however for reasons that weren't really mentioned. Doris warns Bryn not to invite her and does not like her. Jean is not seen on screen, however Gwen sees her and it is unknown what happened next. Doris on dating] “The thing to remember is, don’t go giving him nothing on the first night. Well, no, not nothing. A kiss, a cuddle, a cheeky finger. Just don’t go selling the whole farm.” Ruth "Rudi" Smith ( Sheridan Smith) – Smithy's sister, also likes to be called "Smithy" in an attempt to imitate and irritate her brother, with whom she often fights.Love him so much, and not to sound like those weird girlies on the internet who never really grew out of their Horrible Histories Mathew Baynton obsession – but he’s so cute. Aw. Not that funny but great in other ways tier Gwen Favourite quote: "Korma is futile!" https://t.co/vGm8NxIpGU— Eman El-Sherbiny (@Emythat) May 28, 2019

I honestly dropped my phone on the floor when I realised! My friend Caitlin rang me and was like ‘have you seen, have you seen?’ My friends told me to turn my phone off as my notifications were going mad as it gradually got bigger. As soon as I did is the moment that James Corden decides to retweet me. His reaction has made it all worth it. Pam’s dietary requirements] “This morning, before you arrived, I became a vegetarian. Yeah, veggie, Out of interest, any one of you vegetarians? I mean, not that it makes any difference to me either way. I mean, we’re all adults. But, I would ask you to respect my views. And all the little animals who’ve been needlessly murdered in the name of Western Civilised greed.” (Photo: BBC) Ah, Stacey is finally pregnant, having taken 34 pregnancy tests "just to make sure". This is not necessarily unlikely as I neither know nor care about the motility of Gavin's sperm, but it would have been nice for that particularly storyline not to have ended quite so tidily. Happy ever after can have the odd bump in the road, no? Smithy/Nessa update Bryn: “Oh… Ah… Now that is a thought. Yes. Yes. Stacey, please inform the Shipmans that I accept their offer and very much look forward to meeting them.” (Photo: BBC)

When did you realise that Smithy himself (James Corden) had reacted to it?

So many funny moments that make Bryn and all his weird quirks so special. I think my fave Bryn moment ever is when he does the trial interview with Stacey for her job. Not sure if that’s because he traumatises her and it brings me joy, or if it’s because it’s hilarious when he calls himself “Declan… McPartlin.” Doris Bravo then, to all involved in the show. Oh go on, all together now…“Meet me tomorrow, I’ll wait by the window for you…”!
