About this deal

There are no guidelines as to what’s actually "natural," so read each tube carefully, says Dr. Stanley. Just because something says it’s "natural" doesn’t mean there are no man-made preservatives hidden on the ingredients list. And even if there are, that doesn't necessarily mean they're bad for you. Full disclosure: My two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Evelyn has been using my cinnamon toothpaste and, to my pleasant surprise, she actually really likes it! While I technically shouldn’t recommend using essential oils orally on children as young as this, we personally have had no issues or ill effects from using this toothpaste on our own little one. It is, however, my legal obligation to recommend that you always talk to your doctor before using essential oils in homemade toothpaste made for young children, and to test a very small amount the first time to see if your child has any type of reaction. Over the years we’ve managed to become completely self-sufficient with garlic. We now grow enough to eat all year (and then some!), plus we save our own seed garlic and usually have extra to sell or give away. And around here fresh, organic garlic ain’t cheap, so it’s a good cash crop for anyone who’s serious about selling it.

While essential oils aren’t necessary, they add a familiar “minty” flavour to homemade toothpaste and have additional oral health benefits. I’m excited to announce that we will be moving to an even more robust annual publication with the intention of offering the first ever print edition this fall if there is enough demand. Note: If it’s warm where you live, you might need to keep your toothpaste in the fridge so that it doesn’t melt. Coconut oil melts at 76ºF (24ºC). Benefits of making all-natural toothpaste at home Pour out a little bit of high-quality pure turmeric powder. Wet the bristles of your toothbrush and dip them into the powder. Don’t dip your toothbrush directly into your turmeric container, as that can spread bacteria. There are no studies yet that specifically analyze turmeric’s ability to whiten teeth. All of the current evidence is anecdotal. Xylitol is added to this recipe not just for the health benefits to our teeth and gums, but also as a natural sweetener to help with the taste. Our family's preference is 2 tablespoons in this recipe, but feel free to add more or less to get the sweetness to your liking. Warning: Be sure to keep xylitol safely out of reach from dogs as it is toxic to dogs. One of the reasons is that I love brushing my teeth (weird, but true). So I brush 3 to 4 times a day—usually for a looong time. My OCD brushing habits were the major reason I wanted to switch to something natural. How much of that stuff am I ingesting with all that crazy brushing? Here's what I've noticed:

Surfactants, such as sodium laureth sulphate (SLS) – a foaming agent that can cause canker sores and disturbs the function of your taste buds.

We can’t just talk about coconut oil toothpaste as a miracle cure. No matter how amazing it is, there are some disadvantages of coconut oil toothpaste you need to know. Stevia. If you want tooth-friendly sweetness, stevia is a good choice. Choose powdered extract, powdered stevia leaf, or a plain or flavored liquid stevia extract. A lot of people are worried about the ingredients in regular toothpaste. While fluoride is certainly a great ingredient that strengthens teeth, other chemicals aren’t as kind to your oral health.

If you’ve been watching events unfold over the past few years and you’re feeling called to start “cutting ties” with the system and begin reclaiming your independence, The Society of Self-Reliance was made for you!

It also means learning to preserve it so you can make the most of it and enjoy homegrown food all year long). I thought it was a little odd that most commercial toothpaste isn’t safe to swallow. It’s something you use in your mouth, one of the most absorbent places in your body. But swallowing it is not okay. Something about that just doesn’t make sense to me. Note: There is no fluoride in this recipe. Depending on your stance with this, feel free to add in a fluoride product or use a fluoride mouthwash afterwards. Common toothpaste ingredients I didn’t experience this personally, but have heard from many readers that they had this for the first few days and up to two weeks but from their experience, it seemed to resolve itself. If in doubt, ask a dentist! Q. What type of container is best for this?

Not only is coconut oil toothpaste effective, with it you can avoid all of the chemicals and toxic ingredients in commercial toothpaste and save money! Scary stuff, huh? Well, rather than freak outaboutitevery timeI brush my teeth, I decided to make some homemade toothpaste sans weird stuff. And yes— I threw in some wonderful coconut oil that I’m beyond obsessed with and it’s millions of effective uses. Natural toothpaste recipe I’m all about practical gifts; Gifts that will truly make life easier and contribute to my and my family’s wellbeing. And our family includes our animals!
