However....Negatives: the new CGI is largely disappointing. The effects are video game quality, but not up to the standards of the Star Trek films, which were bigger budget projects, and therefore much more realistic. They are also not up to modern sci-fi film standards at all. Some of the new shots try to get too cute and wind up being unconvincing, and worse, ruin the flow of the narrative. Surprisingly to me, the new CGI Enterprise and other ships are less realistic-looking than those in the original Jefferies footage, which was shot using actual large models. The movements in the old shots were those of large vessels with some weight. By comparison, on some critical episodes like The Doomsday Machine, involving a lot of ships-in-space action, the new effects look flimsy and too video gamish, movements too cheap looking. Small time. Certain new space shots are thoroughly boring. For example, the barrier at the edge of the galaxy, a shimmering dish of energy in the original, is nothing more than a garden variety cloud in the new versions. Bottom line, "prettier" but not necessarily better than 1960s vintage, and definitely not an improvement in story telling.

The Complete Star Trek Movies DVD Box Set Collection

When the crew of the Enterprise learn of a Federation conspiracy against the inhabitants of a unique planet, Captain Picard begins an open rebellion. A prequel to Star Trek: The Original Series, the show follows the crew of the USS Enterprise under Captain Christopher Pike. October 29, 2023 | Ensign Ro And Dr. Gillian Taylor To Return In ‘Deep Space Nine’ Prequel And TOS Movie Era NovelsStar Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (Special Edition); Star Trek - The Original Crew Movie Collection (Special Edition) Pulled to the far side of the galaxy, where the Federation is seventy-five years away at maximum warp speed, a Starfleet ship must cooperate with Maquis rebels to find a way home. Je n'en connaissais que quelques épisodes car, lors de la diffusion de cette série, nous n'avions pas de récepteur de télévision. Once again we have a couple of bizarre Star Date overlaps between seasons with the weak season opener "Elaan Of Troyius," and personal favorite "Spectre Of The Gun," taking place between Season 2's "The Immunity Syndrome" and "I, Mudd," with "Day Of The Dove," "That Which Survives," and the original pilot, "The Cage," being "Star Date: Unknown."

Paramount Releasing Star Trek: TOS Movies 4K/UHD Blu-ray Set Paramount Releasing Star Trek: TOS Movies 4K/UHD Blu-ray Set

This is great news, but can someone tell Paramount to change the Enterprise to the correct version on the front of the box. It is the Phase 2 version which is wrong on many levels. and/or thought we were going to have Robert April gone rouge disagreeing with Starfleet using Kahn as a tactical genius with ENT sent to capture him at the start. Star Trek: The Next Generation - The Complete Series, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - The Complete Series, Star Trek: Voyager - The Complete Series Be aware that like the remastered issue DVD's, these Blu-Ray releases include the revamped CG special effects, a controversial choice for sure but take it from an amateur 3D artist, for the average Joe these revamped special effects do look quite cool, presenting themselves as a problem to only the Trek purists (even though I consider myself an ardent fan!) and possibly veterans of CG modelling and animation that probably would have done it all differently. My only critique with a lot of the CG shots of the Enterprise is that the ship can look a little too light on it's feet for what is apparently a million gross tonnes of vessel.

Really? They put Collins on the cover art? Really? I know they can’t digitally excise his face and voice from the movie itself (now there’s an upgraded version I’d pay for), but do they really think spotlighting his character is appropriate, given the circumstances? IF YOU WANT SOME OF THE REMASTERED EPISODES BUT DO NOT WANT A FULL BOX SET, look for The Best of Star Trek:The Original Series volumes 1 and 2. Each box contains four episodes. Volume 1 contains "Balance of Terror", "City on the Edge of Forever", "Trouble with Tribbles", "Amok Time". Volume 2 contains "Space Seed", "Where No Man Has Gone Before", "Piece of the Action", "Journey to Babel". Another mistake was they continued to play fast and loose with galactic geography. Beaming to “Kronos”? It takes a few hours to get from Earth to Klingon space? What? I know they needed to speed up the plot but there were workarounds to that. Star Trek: The Motion Picture (The Director's Edition); Star Trek - The Original Crew Movie Collection; Star Trek - The Motion Pictures DVD Collection As for Beyond, ironically I saw that movie in the same place I saw Nemesis, just 14 years later at the Chinese theater in Hollywood. I have to say while I didn’t love it, it is the best out of the Kelvin movies for me and the ONLY movie I have ever watched twice in IMAX. Definitely enjoyed it at the movies although not so much at home for some reason! Sadly though, both of these movies basically ended each of their movie franchises, but I digress.

TNG Season 3 DVD, TNG Season 4 DVD, TNG Season 5 DVD, TNG Season 6 DVD, TNG Season 7 DVD re-releases If you are reading this review, but have never actually seen TOS - is that even possible?!?!?! - be aware... MILD SPOILERS AHEAD! Star Trek: Motion Picture Trilogy; Star Trek: The Next Generation Motion Picture Collection; Basic and Special Edition releases of Star Trek; Star Trek: Legends of the Final Frontier Collection When released in Region 1, some of the box set special features were made available only on a bonus disc as a retailer exclusive at several preferred retailers. These features were included with the standard Region 2 release, and were eventually included for American customers on the remastered DVD releases.

There are a number of ways the same plot (or at least a very similar one) could have been improved. The first thing I would have done was loose Khan. That was a bad move right there because the first thing it does is get fans comparing the two. Lose the “Badmiral”. We’ve seen far too many of those.

What you have on the discs are the original programs, cleaned up and color balanced to the point where some of the scenes look as if they were filmed only yesterday! You also have the new "enhanced" versions that have had the original grungy old model shots replaced by beautiful new CGI footage, including all the shots of the Bridge View Screen. From the main menu you have the option to watch the episodes with, or without the new CGI, plus you can even switch between them while you're watching the show, although I find that very distracting. IMPORTANT UPDATE: YouTube (as of 2015) now features episodes of the original series, side by side comparing the original footage with the new CGI versions. If you are not aware of the differences, be sure to watch these YouTube clips(look for TrekkieChannel) and read this review, so you know exactly what you are getting before you buy.) THE BLU-RAY SET OFFERS BOTH OLD AND NEW VERSIONS OF THE EPISODES IN THE SAME SET, and apparently even lets you toggle between the two. Of course, you would need a Blu-Ray player. A special limited-edition Complete Collection was released in the UK; limited to just 2,000 copies, the collection came in a "records bin." The crew of the USS Enterprise explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a new ruthless enemy, who puts them, and everything the Federation stands for, to the test.If you consider that the Classic Star Trek is a 60's television show... A very cheaply made 60's television show then you might wonder (perhaps quite rightly) if there's even much point in CBS applying all the effort and expense dusting off all that old footage and rescanning it all to Hi-Def; I mean all the releases on DVD looked pretty good didn't they? - Sure they did! Well I'm here to assure you that the answer is YES! -- Yes it was definitely all worth it. In the 23rd Century, Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise explore the galaxy and defend the United Federation of Planets. Basic and Special Edition releases of Star Trek; The Best of Star Trek: The Original Series, Volume 2, The Best of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Volume 2.
