About this deal

The First Ymbryne is of a bird who could turn into a woman. She's a goshawk but really likes being in human form and she also has some other abilities. Millard and Emma are the first two peculiars Jacob meets in the loop, and their companionship is hinted, despite the fact they disagree upon whether Jacob is a wight or not. Although the two do have conflicting personalities, Emma still has a sisterly love for her fellow peculiar. He also talks to Jacob of how he would have been a teacher, if not born the way he was. He also calls an attendant on the train pretty, causing Jacob to pity him, although he notices this by the way Jacob is looking at him, and doesn't appreciate it much. Wealthy cannibals who dine on the discarded limbs of peculiars. A fork-tongued princess. These are but a few of the stories in Tales of the Peculiar—the collection of fairy tales known to hide information about the peculiar world, including clues to the locations of time loops—first introduced in the #1 bestselling Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series. You are invited to learn these secrets of peculiar history, with a collection of original stories in this deluxe volume of Tales of the Peculiar. Featuring stunning illustrations from world-renowned artist Andrew Davidson, this compelling, rich, and truly peculiar anthology is perfect for fans and those new to the series, as well.

According to Jacob, Millard is a bit of a sycophant when it comes to the rules. He constantly refuses to help with plans and schemes, and he refuses to participate in what the other children view as fun. However, in A Map of Days, Millard willingly decides to come with Jacob and some others on their trip to rescue a peculiar child. The villagers, moved to compassion despite their concerns about disease, brought the fallen lady and her companions into the nearest house. They were given water and made comfortable in beds of straw, and a dozen villagers crowded around them offering help. Before leaving, he told Zheng to come looking for him if he should not return. And, after having frightful nightmares featuring Liu Zhi, his son was ready to go seek for his father. Zheng'd made a promise to his father and he intended to fulfill it. Audio Notes: LOVED the audio version narrated by the incomparable Simon Callow, whose plummy voice pronounces the delicious words with utmost care. I very much liked his different voices as well, and special applause for voicing young female characters with sympathy and appreciation. The Pigeons of St. Paul's (3.5 stars)-Another short one compared to other stories. I think this was originally in one of the books. I don't feel like looking it up. Okay story, but compared to the other stories, not as great. The First Ymbryne [ ] The Woman Who Befriended Ghosts [ ] Cocobolo [ ] The Pigeons of St. Paul's [ ]

There was once a peculiar woman named Hildy. She had a high laughing voice and dark brown skin, and she could see ghosts. She wasn’t frightened by them at all.”

Millard plays an important role in trying to phone a loop, although the plan failed as adults attempted to force them on a train. When that fails, they bring up the idea of entering a punishment loop. Millard panics at hearing this, explaining why it would be suicidal to do so. But, he comes up with the idea to capture a pigeon that will lead them to Miss Wren. He reads the story of The Pigeons of St. Paul's. All very beautifully illustrated, told in fairy tale way but deeper with touch of horror, peculiarity ....yet with hope and meaningful morals.. The Girl Who Could Tame Nightmares is about Lavinia who pulls threads out of people's ears and keeps them. They end up being a form of pet to her. It's really bizarre and so freaking good. There is more to the story but you can read it on your own.

What makes this little book stand out even more is the lovely and intricate design. The cover is green with gold impressions which makes stroking the cover quite nice and every tale has its own titular illustration. Here are my three favourites: When the hollow is found in the loop, it is he who explains that the monsters have evolved something similar to peculiarities, allowing them to enter loops. In fact, he earlier explains to Jacob that his ability to see hollows will evolve. This was exactly my kind of tale because I love anything magical. And in this case Zheng listened to his prophetic dreams and let them guide him to Liu Zhi. “If that didn’t work, he would listen to the whales.”The Tale of Cuthbert (3.5 stars)-Only because I read this before I think in book #2 of the series and I already knew how it ended. But something was wrong with the baby: "its heart was so big that one side of its chest was noticeably larger than the other."

As the title might suggest, in this tale wealthy cannibals dine on the discarded limbs of peculiars. Of course, they were "civilized cannibals and never killed innocent people."When Hildy was young, her sister drowned in a terrible accident. But her sister never left her, instead the ghost of her sister stays with Hildy always, and they’re the best of friends. Suddenly, her sister is called away on ghost business, and Hildy is left with no friends. She struggles to make non-dead friends, so instead she tries to find some new ghost friends. Each tale is paired with an illustration to get the tale going. Simply beautiful and I needed more of those. Maybe they'll be another book just with peculiar illustrations... (wink) Get on it!!
