After navigating the very rough world of 3rd party PS3 controller solutions, I can tell you this is the one to get. The PlayStation controller is the first gamepad released by Sony Interactive Entertainment for its PlayStation home video game console.

Going to have to say the original PS1 controller because I've been privileged to have gone through quite a lot of console and seen the launches from the NES, Master System and onwards. My only grip is that it looks more like a switch pro controller than a PS1 controller, and I'm a sucker for retro looking devices. If you have a limited input method such as an SNES-style controller or handheld, then the spreadsheet below will also help you figure out which games you will be able to play. The DualSense has become a subject of a class-action lawsuit due to a perceived drift in one of the analog sticks, being litigated by the same firm that is challenging Nintendo for a similar drift issue in its Joy-Con for the Switch. Less popular is the light bar, which replaces the little red LEDs that used to indicate which player number you were. It was Sony's first official wireless controller, and was capable of detecting motion with "six degrees of freedom," yet it did not have a rumble feature. It can be charged using the console, using a dedicated charging station, or via microUSB using a standalone charger. In the slideshow and article below, we take a deeper dive into the evolution of the PlayStation controller, including the brand-new DualSense Edge.

The Share button is now the Create button, and the PS button has evolved from a circular input to take the form of the emblem itself. On September 15, 2016, a second version of DualShock 4 controllers was released, the DualShock Version 2 (CUH-ZCT2), which hosts slight improvements over the original DualShock 4, including USB communication, improved triggers and joysticks, a longer battery life and the ability to see the light bar from the top of the touchpad. The DualShock Analog Controller (models: SCPH-1200; US models: SCPH-110U [4]) can provide vibration feedback based on game activity, and input through two analog sticks. It's clear where Sony's initial inspiration came from, then, but it took things a step further for its very first controller. While the default setting of 57 is decent, it does cause some games to exceed their intended frame rate and the setting of 55 is recommended to reduce this from happening in more games. Along with the release of the 'slim' model PS3, Sony released a new version of the DualShock3 (A1) which uses 5.

The Dual Analog's rumble circuit will not respond to PlayStation 2 software even if a rumble motor is installed. If it ain't broke, don't fix it, and at least in terms of exterior design, DualShock 2 is almost identical to its predecessor. The shape and placement of the buttons is always important with third-party controllers of any time, and you’ll be happy that both are well done with the TPFOON. Speaking of buttons, Start and Select — present on every PlayStation pad since the start — were ditched in favour of Options and Share. In addition to the standard digital mode and the regular "red LED" Analog mode, there is a third mode that emulates the layout of Sony's own PlayStation Analog Joystick, and is indicated by a green LED. Reasons for dropping the vibration feedback reportedly included its being linked to premature malfunction of the controllers.
